A beginner´s guide to Mexican food that will save you hours of studying the menu

Being popular all over the world, you can imagine that Mexican food is a huge topic and in fact, the attempt to try everything kept me quite busy for five months. I was pretty overwhelmed by the food guides I found - most of them using words and ingredients I´ve never heard of before and all of them praising Mexican food to the highest. I decided to approach the topic step by step while featuring an ambivalent view, so that you can make the most out of your stay. Because to truly experience Mexico, trying its food is simply a must (like it´s the case for every country, I think)!

5 dishes you cannot miss when in Mexico and the reasons why

There´s a Mexican in basically every European city, right? So why pressure yourself to try every dish in Mexico, when you can as well easily have it back home? For two reasons: Either it just tastes completely different there or you simply don´t get it outside Mexico. Here´s an introduction to the dishes I think you really shouldn´t miss when in Mexico!

During my time there I aimed to try every recommendation I got and, as an outcome, here are - only and exclusively - my absolute favorites.

CHIAPAS – Mexico´s green oasis

Chiapas is one of the greenest areas in Mexico. It comes with amazing turquoise waterfalls, pre-hispanic ruins and the very authentic city of San Cristobal.  In my opinion it's one of the completely underestimated locations in Mexico, already a famous travel destination among mexicans but still not really discovered by international tourists. Therefore it's probably one of the cheapest places you'll visit in Mexico and I think as well one of the most beautiful.

3 reasons why Mexico is the best destination for an exchange

It´s the perfect TRAVEL location! Mexico is huge, it unites several different climates and its mix of cultures is ineffable. Among my favorite locations were the Cenotes on the Yucatan peninsula, the pre-hispanic ruins (not only Mayas inhabited Mexico before the Spaniards arrived!) all over the country and the lonely white beaches. The best thing: … Continue reading 3 reasons why Mexico is the best destination for an exchange
